The Major Golf tournaments schedule occur every April through July and are the most prestigious men’s golf tournaments in the World. There are four recognized major championships and we go over the schedule and TV broadcasts for those remaining in 2024 and the 2025 Major golf tournament schedule. The current order of the tournaments was set in 2019 to preserve the end of the golf schedule for the FedEx Cup playoffs by the PGA.
Major Golf Tournaments Overview
The Major golf tournaments have remained the same for what feels like forever despite moves at times to add a 5th one at times. The most significant change to occur over the years was moving the PGA Championship to the spring from the late summer to accommodate the FedEx Playoffs that occur at the end of the PGA Tour season now. Here’s an overview of the four major golf championships.
The Masters
The Masters is the 1st golf major of the season. It’s one of the most prestigious, and it is the only championship to be held on the same course every year. The tournament is always played at Augusta National in Georgia. The Masters schedule is set for the first weekend in April every year.
PGA Championship
The PGA Championship is the second golf major of the year. It’s played in the United States and now takes place in May. It normally takes place prior to Memorial Day weekend and after the Kentucky Derby.
US Open Championship
The third golf major of the year is the US Open Championship. The tournament is one of the more difficult of the four scoring wise and rotates between courses in the U.S. It normally takes place the third weekend of June and many times finishes on the U.S. Father’s Day.
The Open Championship (British Open)
The Open Championship (British Open) takes place in the U.K. on a links course on the coast. It is the oldest event on the golf calendar. The Open normally takes place in the time frame including the third Friday in July.
