Future NFL Schedules: Opponents, Rotations, and Key Dates through 2028

Welcome to the Future NFL Schedules hub on SportsBrackets.net. We provide an overview of upcoming opponents for all 32 NFL teams, based on the league’s rotational scheduling formula. While exact dates, times, and TV details for each season are released later, the core opponents (including home/away designations) are determined well in advance by division rotations, inter-conference matchups, and placement-based games. Click on any team below to view their detailed future opponent’s breakdown, starting from the 2026 season and beyond.

The NFL scheduling formula is designed to ensure that every team plays every other franchise in the league at least once every four years. While the exact dates and kickoff times are released each May, the list of home and away opponents for future seasons is determined years in advance by a set rotation. Below, you will find links to our detailed team-by-team future schedule breakdowns for the 2026, 2027, and 2028 seasons.

When are the NFL Regular Season Schedules Released?

Future NFL Schedules and opponents

The full NFL regular-season schedule, including game dates and kickoff times, is typically released in mid-May each year-around the second Thursday of the month-following the NFL Draft. This timing allows for final adjustments based on TV network preferences and logistical considerations. Opponents, however, are largely known by the end of the prior season, with only a few “positional” matchups (based on divisional standings) finalized after Week 18. We always keep an updated projection on the next NFL schedule released for you to check out.

How Future NFL Schedules Work

For determining future NFL Schedules, the league uses a predictable 17-game format (expanded in 2021) where each team plays:

  • 6 games against divisional opponents (3 home, 3 away).
  • 4 games against an entire NFC or AFC division (rotating every 3-4 years).
  • 4 games against another in-conference division.
  • 2-3 additional games based on prior-year standings, including the rotating “17th game” against an inter-conference opponent. This rotation ensures balanced competition over time. We’ll update team pages as new seasons’ details emerge. Also, if we see the NFL add an 18th game, we’ll update everything for you as well.

Below, teams are organized by conference and division for easy navigation. Explore each team’s page for year-by-year opponent lists with home/away breakdowns as we add them for you. NFL Future Schedules FAQ

Question: How is the NFL future schedule determined?

Answer: The NFL uses a rotating formula. Each team plays its three divisional rivals twice (6 games), one division from its own conference on a 3-year rotation (4 games), and one division from the opposite conference on a 4-year rotation (4 games). The final three games are determined by the previous season’s divisional standings.

Question: When is the official 2026 NFL schedule released?

Answer: The NFL traditionally releases the full schedule with specific dates, times, and TV networks during the second week of May. For the 2026 season, the release is expected between May 12 and May 14, 2026.

Question: How many international games will be played in 2026?

Answer: The NFL has confirmed a record nine international games for the 2026 season. Confirmed locations include London (3 games), Munich, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, Melbourne, Madrid, and the first-ever regular-season game in Paris, France.

Question: Which conference has more home games in 2026?

Answer: In 2026, the AFC teams will host nine regular-season games, while the NFC teams will host eight. This alternates every year under the 17-game schedule format.
