The 2024 British Open Golf schedule runs from July 18th- July 21st, 2024. The 152nd Open is being played at Royal Troon Golf Club outside of Glasgow, Scotland this year. The winner of the golf major is expected to earn at least $3 Million USD this year. We have the TV schedule, event specifics, and more for you. 

2024 British Open Golf Schedule

The 2024 British Open golf tournament starts on Thursday, July 18th for tournament play. The tournament is the final Major golf championship on the PGA Tour. The field is set at 156 players (same as the US Open). TV Coverage is provided by USA Network for the early part of the first two rounds, and NBC covers the money times and lower scoring groups of players.

The British Open, or the Open Championship is the oldest golf tournament is the world. Originally founded in 1860, the tournament was held annually at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland. It later changed to be rotated between a group of links golf courses in the U.K. Today, there are 14 courses that have hosted the Open. Ten are part of the current rotation, and St. Andrews hosts the tournament around every five years. To date, the tournament has been played in Scotland 97 times, England 52, and Northern Island twice. Royal Troon Golf Club is the host for 2024.

British Open Golf Facts

  • Gary Player has played the British Open the most times with 46 appearances.
    • He also won the Open in three different decades (1959, 1968, and 1974).
  • The Golf Champion Trophy is known as the Claret Jug.
  • The winner of the British Open keeps the trophy until the next Open, at which point it must be returned. They are given a replica to keep.
  • If the winner is a pro golfer, then the winner’s share of the purse is 18%.
  • The top 10 finishers get an entry into the following year’s Open. 
  • Tiger Woods has won the British Open three times. 2000, 2005, and 2006.

The Masters: Week of April 8-14 at Augusta National, Augusta, Georgia

PGA Championship: Week of May 13-19 at Valhalla Golf Club, Louisville, Kentucky

U.S. Open: Week of June 10-16 at Pinehurst Resort (No. 2), Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina

British Open: Week of July 15-21 at Royal Troon, South Ayrshire, Scotland
