When does the 2024 NFL Preseason Start?
The 2024 NFL Preseason schedule starts with the annual NFL Hall of Fame Game. Canton, Ohio is the host site for the matchup that occurs on August 1st, 2024. Last years’ game featured the Jets taking on the Cleveland Browns. The NFL has confirmed that we’ll get to see the Chicago Bears play the Houston Texans in the Hall of Fame Game. For the 2024 NFL Preseason, there are only three games on the schedule. This resulted from the agreement with the NFL Players Association to expand the regular season to 17 games.
What to Expect in the 2024 NFL Schedule for Week 1?
During the NFL Week 1 schedule for the 2024 season, we know the first game features the defending Super Bowl Champions. NBC Sports reported that the NFL is considering holding a game in Brazil during Week 1 at São Paulo at the Corinthians Arena which has been confirmed. São Paulo at the Corinthians Arena previously served as a host site for the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Since Week 1 has the first Friday and Saturday in September, the league has the option to hold the game on Friday or Saturday. Alternatively, we could also see a double-header to kick-off the 2024 NFL regular season for Thursday Night Football.
Since 1961, the NFL has not played Friday or Saturday games from the second weekend in September through the second weekend in December. This was done to preserve those evenings for High School and college football for fan priorities (Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961).
Flex Scheduling for the 2024 NFL Schedule
The NFL will leverage flex scheduling again in the 2024 NFL regular season. During weeks it can be used, you will need to check the schedules for the games closer to game day to ensure you don’t miss anything. Between NFL weeks 5 through 10 the league can implement changes twice. From weeks 11 through 17 they can modify the schedules to maximize good matchups in prime time as many times as they deem fit. Similarly discretion applies for Monday Night Football between weeks 12 through 17.
The NFL is using a scheduling rule to minimize the total change in time for fans. Only Sunday afternoon games (or those that are TBD entirely) can be shifted to Sunday Night or Monday Night football. When this occurs, the originally scheduled game will swap places. The NFL reserves the right to shift games around within the Sunday afternoon schedule as well. They can take place at 1 PM, 4:05 PM , or 4:30 PM eastern time.
2024 NFL International Game Schedule
International fans will enjoy five games played outside of the United States during the 2024 NFL regular season. The 2024 NFL International schedule sees teams playing in Munich Germany, London, Englay, and Sãu Paulo, Brazil. The NFL will confirm the teams that will play in Brazil ahead of the larger 2024 NFL schedule announcement. We do know one of the two teams for each matchup, host stadium, and city that we have for you here. * The NFL has confirmed that the Eagles will play the Packers in Brazil on Friday, September 6th, 2024.
