How Does Augusta National Determine the Pairings for the First Two Rounds in the Masters?
The pairings for the first two rounds of the Masters are set by the board. They’ll pick good mixes of personality, fan attraction, and you name it to fill out the field of play. The third and fourth round pairings are much less exciting for those looking for drama. Those are solely based on the scores of the 50 odd players who make the cut to play into the weekend. The times listed are based off of no impact from weather. If the rain results in a pause or delay in the action, then the times get adjusted based on the environment. Rounds 3 and 4 of the Masters see the players go off in two-somes. All rounds and players tee-off from the first hole to start.
