2026 MLB Playoff Format and Key Dates
Twelve teams reach the 2026 postseason: the three division winners in each league plus three Wild Cards. The two division winners with the best records in each league earn a bye straight to the Division Series, while the third division winner and the three Wild Cards meet in a best-of-three Wild Card round at the higher seed’s ballpark. From there it is a best-of-five Division Series, a best-of-seven League Championship Series, and then the World Series.
Key dates to watch: the regular season ends Sunday, September 27, the Wild Card Series begins Tuesday, September 29, the Division Series open in early October, and the World Series starts October 23.
