The 2024 ACC basketball tournament schedule is set to kick off on March 12th, 2024. The tournament takes place at the Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C. The men’s basketball tournament concludes on March 16, 2024. This will be the 71st annual ACC basketball tournament. All 15 teams earn a spot in the tournament and will be seeded from #1 to #15 based on their regular season record. The conference uses a tie-breaker system to help determine the seeds for teams with identical records in conference play.
Who is the Favorite in the 2024 ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament?
It’s definitely a crazy basketball year when the Louisville Cardinals are last in ACC play! No surprise, the UNC Tar Heels are ranked highest in the conference. The Duke Blue Devils are not far behind. UVA, Florida State, and Wake Forest are bunched up just behind Duke, so it’s really anyone’s game in the conference tournament. Don’t be surprised to see the Miami Hurricanes turn it on late this season too after being so highly ranked early on.
ACC Basketball Tournament at the Capital One Arena
The Capital One Arena is located in Washington, D.C. in the Penn Quarter neighborhood. The arena is on top of the Gallery Place rapid transit station of the Metro, and it was originally opened in December of 1996. The arena has undergone a few name changes over the years. It was first known as the MCI Center, then changed to the Verizon Center in 2006 after MCI was acquired by Verizon. The arena gained its current name in 2017. It is home to the Washington Wizards (NBA), Washington Capitals (NHL), and the Georgetown University’s men’s basketball team. Capital One Arena can seat 20,365 fans for basketball games and will be the host location for the 2024 ACC basketball tournament.

The ACC has held their men’s basketball tournament every year since 1961. The conference led the way in making the tournament champion the overall conference champion throughout this timeframe. Future ACC Basketball Tournament Dates and Locations
After the 2024 ACC basketball tournament is played in Washington, D.C., the league has shifted the tourney to be played in North Carolina for the next five years. The 2025 ACC Men’s basketball tournament marks the first of three times the tournament will be held at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina over the next five years. The tournament was selected by the ACC to be played at this location again for the 2025, 2026 ACC Basketball tournament, and the 2027 ACC tourney. Heading into the 2025 tournament, Charlotte has hosted the ACC tournament 13 times.
The 2027 ACC Men’s basketball tournament will remain in North Carolina, but the venue will change to the Greensboro Coliseum. The 2027 tournament will be the 30th time the league has played the tourney at the Coliseum. To wrap up the five-year streak in the state, the 2029 ACC tournament will also be played in Greensboro.
