As the 2025 AFC North Champions, the Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for a rigorous “first-place” schedule in 2026. Thanks to the NFL’s fixed scheduling rotation, we can project the Steelers’ opponents and home/away designations through the 2030 season. While official dates and kickoff times are released each May, the formula ensures the Black and Gold face their division rivals twice, rotating divisions from the NFC and AFC, and positional matchups based on the previous year’s standings.

How the NFL Scheduling Formula Works

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ schedule is not random; it is built on a rigid rotation that ensures the team plays every other NFL franchise at least once every four years. The 17-game season is calculated as follows:

  1. Division Rivals (6 Games): Home and away against the Ravens, Bengals, and Browns.
  2. Rotating AFC Division (4 Games): Facing an entire AFC division on a four-year cycle (South, West, East).
  3. Rotating NFC Division (4 Games): Facing an entire NFC division on a three-year cycle (South, West, North, East).
  4. Positional Seedings (2 Games): Matchups against the teams in the other two AFC divisions that finished in the same spot in the standings as Pittsburgh.
  5. The 17th Game (1 Game): A rotating inter-conference matchup against an NFC team that finished in the same rank as the Steelers.
