Format, seeds and byes
All 13 CAA teams make the tournament, seeded one through thirteen by their conference record. The byes reward the regular season: the top four seeds get a double bye straight to the quarterfinals, seeds five through eleven get a first-round bye into the second round, and seeds twelve and thirteen meet in the lone opening-night game. That makes five rounds in five days, from Friday’s first-round game to Tuesday’s championship.
The bracket fills in like this: the 12-vs-13 winner joins seeds 5 through 11 in Saturday’s second round; the four second-round winners meet seeds 1 through 4 in Sunday’s quarterfinals; the quarterfinal winners play Monday’s semifinals; and the two survivors meet Tuesday for the title and the NCAA bid.
