
The Copa America Winners list includes all of the champions going back to when the tournament was only for South American countries. How Often Does the Copa America Take Place?
The Copa America takes place every four years now. It’s gone through some changes over the years. The current periodicity was set (and year) when the 100th anniversary of the tournament was moved up to be held in the US in 2016 after taking place in 2015. The 2020 Copa took place in Brazil in 2021 due to COVID. The tournament expanded to 12 teams in 1993. The 2024 Copa America is being held in the United States for a second time.
Who has Won the Most Copa America Tournaments?
Since the tournament first took place in 1916, Argentina has won the most times (16) and Uruguay has won 15. Brazil has the second-most wins with nine. Brazil has won the most times since 1993 when the tournament expanded to 12 teams with five wins. Argentina has won three and come in as a runner-up four times in this timeframe. We will get to see Argentina, Paraguay, and the United States participate in both the Copa America and Paris Olympics in 2024. The Copa takes place at the same time as Euro 2024 for the current cycle as well for soccer fans.
