Is Tiger Woods Going to Play in the Masters?

Is Tiger Woods Going to Play in the Masters?

The big question this weekend. Is Tiger Woods going to play in the Masters? As of Friday Night West, Coast time in California, the answer is yes. His team added the tournament to his website schedule. Tiger is on the media schedule at Augusta National on Tuesday. The Masters is scheduled to start round one on Thursday, April 11th, 2024. The Major wraps up on Sunday, April 14th, 2024.

When Did Tiger Woods Last Play in a Tournament?

The last time we saw Tiger Woods play in a PGA tournament was at the Genesis Invitational in February. In this tourney, he had to withdraw in the second round due to having the flu. This was his first tournament in 2024. The Genesis was also only his seventh at an official PGA event since The November 2020 Masters due to his ongoing battles with injuries.

How Many Times has Tiger Woods Played in The Masters?

As long as his participation remains on-track, this will be Tiger’s 26th appearance at the Masters. He made the cut in 2023 which tied the record for consecutive cuts made (23rd). Tiger had to withdraw prior to the third round due to plantar fasciitis making it too painful for him to competitively continue play. If there are changes to Tiger’s plans, he will normally have his team post to his site almost simultaneously with the PR announcement. For those wondering, once you win The Masters, you are granted a lifetime exemption to play in the tournament. As a result, Tiger not playing another tournament doesn’t impact his participation from that point of view.

So, Is Tiger Woods Going to Play in the Masters?

So, the answer is Tiger Woods going to play in the Masters? It’s officially a yes right now. USA Today reports that he played the course last weekend to prepare for next week. He has significant issues with his ankle that give him a lot of constraints to playing. If he does play and make the cut, he will break the tie he is in with Gary Player and Fred Couples for the most cuts made in a row.

For those who don’t remember or were too young to see Tiger play a while back…this is the man who won the 2008 US Open on a broken leg and torn ACL. If he can physically make it out there, he will.

How Many Times has Tiger Won the Masters?

Right now, Tiger is in second place all-time with winning five green jackets. Jack Nicklaus has the most victories at six. Arnold Palmer is next-closest with three victories. A fun fact, when you win the Masters multiple times, you only have one green jacket kept for you at Augusta National!

He first won the event in 1997 when he was 21 years old making him the youngest winner. He also won consecutive Masters in 2001 and 2002. Jack Nicklaus and Nick Faldo are the only other two golfers to do so. His other victories came in 2005 and 2019. 2019 was a big deal, because that was his first big win after all of the major injuries in a Major.

We’ll keep you posted as we get new information or news on if Tiger is playing. We have the 2024 Master’s Schedule posted up for you to check out. You can also see the rest of the PGA Tour Schedule as well.
