2024 AAC Football Schedule

2024 AAC Football Schedule

The 2024 AAC football schedule is out. Games for the 2024 regular season start on Thursday, August 29th, 2024. The first American Athletic conference games occur on Saturday, September 7th, 2024. Temple will play at Navy and Army visits Florida Atlantic. Fans will enjoy Army joining the AAC this season with SMU departing to play in the ACC.

How Does Army Joining the AAC Impact the Army vs Navy Game?

An initial concern with Army joining the American Athletic conference was the potential impact on the annual Army-Navy game. The game will continue to be played on the second Saturday in December. It will count as a non-conference game.

In the event the teams are both qualified for the American Football Championship, they could play in back-to-back weeks in any given season. The American Championship game is played on the home field of the team with the highest conference winning percentage in the matchup. We’ll see either ABC or ESPN broadcast the game.

When will the AAC Football TV Schedule and Kickoff Times get Set?

Similar to other major college football conferences, the AAC football TV times, coverages, and kickoffs won’t get set until around June 1st. Then, we’ll see the times set for the first three weeks of the season with game times for subsequent matchups set 6-14 days out for the remainder of the regular season.

What are the Featured Non-Conference Games this Year?

There are several great non-conference games for AAC teams this season. Besides Army-Navy, we also see a number of additional great games. Navy plays Notre Dame (in East Rutherford, New Jersey). Other matchups include: UAB at Arkansas, USF at Alabama, UTSA at Texas, Temple at Oklahoma, Kansas State at Tulane, Oklahoma State at Tulsa, Florida Atlantic at Michigan State, Memphis at Florida State, North Texas at Texas Tech, Charlotte at North Carolina, App State at East Carolina, and Rice at Houston.

Army vs Notre Dame at the 2024 Shamrock Series

Of course, Army playing Notre Dame at Yankee Stadium is a great way to start off in a new conference! Notre Dame took 2023 off from the Shamrock Series since the team traveled to Dublin to take on Navy in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. This will be the third time in the 12-years The Shamrock Bowl has existed the teams have faced off and the 52nd total time. Notre Dame leads the all-time series record against Army, 39-8-4. They are up 2-0 in the Shamrock Series.

Notre Dame and Army will square off for the third time in the 12-year history of The Shamrock Bowl, and the 52nd time in program history. The Fighting Irish lead the all-time series and The Shamrock Series against the Black Knights 39-8-4 and 2-0, respectively.

What Teams are in the American Athletic Conference in 2024?

For football, there will be 14 teams in the American Athletic Conference for the 2024 season. With Army joining the AAC and SMU leaving, there remains an even number of teams. Other members of the conference include: Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, Navy, North Texas, Rice, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB, USF, and UTSA.

2024-25 College Football Playoff

While the AAC champion does not earn an automatic bid to the 2024-25 college football playoff, the odds are better this season for the champ to earn a spot. There will be 12 teams eligible for the postseason this year, so there is a chance for the American champion. While not as strong as the teams who will compete for the SEC football championship, they are a lot higher than last season when only four teams earned a spot in the postseason. Stay tuned for an action-packed season of football.
