Format, seeds and byes
The MAC uses a revised eight-team format for 2027. The top eight finishers in the 12-team regular-season standings make the field. The top two seeds receive a bye straight to the semifinals, and seeds three and four get a bye to the quarterfinals. That leaves seeds five through eight to open on the first day, so a strong regular season is worth a real head start in Cleveland.
The bracket below shows how the field lines up. First round: seed 5 vs seed 8 and seed 6 vs seed 7. Quarterfinals: seed 4 and seed 3 enter against the first-round winners. Semifinals: seed 1 and seed 2 enter against the quarterfinal winners. The two semifinal winners meet Saturday for the title.
