Biggest movers in Week 2
Ohio State stays No. 1. The Buckeyes opened the season with a 56-3 rout and pulled 46 of the first-place votes, holding off the field with ease.
Oregon slides from 2 to 6. The Ducks fell four spots, the sharpest drop inside the top 10, as Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas and Indiana each moved up a place behind Ohio State.
LSU jumps into the top 10. The Tigers climbed to No. 8 after a 51-10 dismantling of Clemson, the most convincing resume-builder of the weekend.
Michigan out, Virginia in. Michigan is the only team to drop out of the poll this week, while Virginia is the lone newcomer, entering at No. 25.
How the AP Top 25 works
The Associated Press Top 25 is voted on by a panel of sports writers and broadcasters across the country. Each voter submits a ballot ranking their top 25 teams, points are awarded on a sliding scale (25 for a first-place vote down to 1 for 25th), and the totals set the national order. A new poll is released every week during the season, usually Sunday or Monday, and it runs alongside the Coaches Poll and, later in the year, the College Football Playoff rankings. The AP poll does not decide the Playoff field, but it is the longest-running snapshot of how the country sees the sport week to week.
