How the 2026 All-Star draft works

For the league’s 30th anniversary, the All-Star teams are not set by conference or by captains picking on court. Instead, WNBA legends and Hall of Famers Cynthia Cooper and Teresa Weatherspoon act as honorary general managers and draft their rosters from the full 22-player pool. Here is the timeline.

  • 10 starters were announced July 2, chosen by fan, player, and media voting.
  • 12 reserves are picked by the league’s head coaches and announced Tuesday, July 7, completing the 22-player pool.
  • The two head coaches are the coaches of the teams with the best records after games on Friday, July 10.
  • Cooper and Weatherspoon then draft the 22 All-Stars into Team Cooper and Team Weatherspoon (11 players each). The league will share the exact draft format in the days ahead.
