The Formula
Slugging percentage = total bases divided by at-bats. Total bases = singles + (2 x doubles) + (3 x triples) + (4 x home runs).
Worked Example
A hitter has 30 singles, 12 doubles, 2 triples, and 8 home runs in 170 at-bats. Total bases = 30 + 24 + 6 + 32 = 92. Slugging = 92 divided by 170, which is .541.
