How Does a 9-Team Double Elimination Bracket Work?
Double elimination gives every team a second life. Because 9 is not a clean bracket number, seeds 8 and 9 meet in a play-in game to trim the winners bracket to a standard eight, while the top seven teams get a first-round bye. Winners keep advancing through the winners bracket, and the moment a team loses it drops into the losers bracket instead of going home. A second loss ends a team’s run. The winners bracket champion and the losers bracket champion meet in the grand final, and if the team coming out of the losers bracket wins that game, you play one more deciding game (a bracket reset) because each side then has one loss.
