Group I at the 2026 FIFA World Cup brings together 2018 champion France, 2022 group winner Senegal, a Norway side led by Erling Haaland in their first World Cup since 1998, and an Iraq side returning to the tournament for the first time since 1986. The matches split between East Coast U.S. venues and a Toronto finale, opening on Tuesday, June 16, with France versus Senegal at MetLife Stadium, then closing with simultaneous matches on Friday, June 26, when France meets Norway in Foxborough and Senegal faces Iraq in Toronto.

2026 World Cup Group I Schedule

Five of the six Group I matches are at U.S. East Coast venues, with the schedule rotating through MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, and Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. The matchday 3 Senegal versus Iraq fixture heads north to BMO Field in Toronto. The top two finishers automatically advance to the knockout rounds, while the third-place team will hope to finish among the eight best thirds across all 12 groups to grab one of the remaining Round of 32 spots.

The group stage does not end Group I’s run on June 26. The top two finishers, plus a possible third-place advancer, move into the single-elimination Round of 32. Here is the path a Group I team must take to reach the final in New York/New Jersey:

  • Round of 16: July 9 – July 12, 2026
  • Quarterfinals: July 14 – July 15, 2026
  • Semifinals: July 17 – July 18, 2026
  • World Cup Final: July 19, 2026 (MetLife Stadium)
