2026 World Cup Groups Ranked from Easiest to Hardest After the Draw

2026 World Cup Groups Ranked from Easiest to Hardest After the Draw

The 2026 World Cup draw is finished, and the 12 groups now range from clear paths to outright craziness. The Host countries got soft landings, and nine debut nations face very different tests. Here is every group ranked from easiest to hardest based on current power-ranking models, recent form, and the now-confirmed 48-team field.

2026 World Cup Groups Ranked

The 2026 World Cup groups are set. Below is a ranking from easiest (1) to hardest (12) based on FIFA rankings (November 2025), recent form, head-to-head records, and travel demands. Rankings graphic from FOX Sports

RankGroupTeamsWhy this ranking
1Group BCanada, Switzerland, Qatar, Bosnia and HerzegovinaThe weakest group in the field. Host Canada was the lowest-rated Pot 1 side and Qatar drags the average down. Switzerland is the team to beat.
2Group EGermany, Ecuador, Cote d’Ivoire, CuracaoGermany and Ecuador are clear frontrunners. Ivory Coast is mid-tier and debutant Curacao is the lowest-rated team at the tournament.
3Group AMexico, South Korea, South Africa, CzechiaNo top-20 side, so it is open. Host Mexico leads, South Korea is next, and Czechia round it out after the playoffs.
4Group GBelgium, Iran, Egypt, New ZealandBelgium are favorites, with Iran the main threat. Egypt and New Zealand are the weaker pair, so expect tight but low-profile games.
5Group DUSA, Australia, Paraguay, TurkiyeA genuine toss-up behind host USA. Paraguay, Australia, and Turkiye are tightly matched, making it one of the closest groups.
6Group CBrazil, Morocco, Scotland, HaitiBrazil are favorites, but 2022 semifinalists Morocco are dangerous and Scotland are solid. Haiti are the clear outsiders.
7Group KPortugal, Colombia, Uzbekistan, DR CongoDeceptively tough. Colombia (top 6) and Portugal (top 10) are both elite, with Uzbekistan and DR Congo the outsiders.
8Group LEngland, Croatia, Ghana, PanamaEngland and Croatia, 2018 semifinal rivals, headline a strong group. Ghana have slipped and Panama are the outsiders.
9Group HSpain, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Cape VerdeTop-ranked Spain set the standard, with Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay the likeliest challenger. Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde are outsiders.
10Group FNetherlands, Japan, Sweden, TunisiaHighly competitive. The Netherlands lead, Japan and Sweden are both dangerous, and even Tunisia are no pushover.
11Group IFrance, Norway, Senegal, IraqMany fans’ group of death. France dominate, but Norway and Senegal both have the talent to reach the knockouts, with Iraq the outsider.
12Group JArgentina, Austria, Algeria, JordanThe statistical group of death. Reigning champions Argentina headline, with Austria and Algeria both strong and Jordan the outsider.

Quick Notes

  • Hosts (USA, Mexico, Canada) all in top-half easiest groups.
  • Group F has the highest combined ranking points.
  • Nine debutants; Curaçao in E has easiest debut path.
  • Playoff winners (March 2026) could shift rankings slightly.
