The 2024 Texas Longhorns football schedule starts on August 31st, 2024. The Longhorns host Colorado State at home in Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium. They hit the road in week two of the college football season and take on the defending champion, Michigan Wolverines. Texas plays their first SEC conference game after shifting over from the Big 12 on September 28,2024. The game will be against Mississippi State. Texas renews the dormant rivalry with Texas A&M to close out the 2024 regular season at College Station on November 30th.
What’s Different for Texas Football in 2024?
For Texas, the single biggest thing is moving to play in the SEC after making it to the College Football Playoff in their last season in the Big 12. Along with Oklahoma, they bring the SEC to a total of 16 teams this season. For SEC play writ large, there are no more divisions. The teams will all compete to earn one of the top two spots in regular season play for a chance to make it to the 2024 SEC Championship game.

2024-25 College Football Playoffs
Another big change for all of college football (not just the SEC), is the expansion of the college football playoff. For the 2024-25 college football season, the playoff expands from four to 12 teams. We expect that a vote will come through to confirm a 5 + 7 arrangement where the SEC conference champion will be guaranteed a playoff spot.
The seven at-large bids will be based on the playoff rankings of which the SEC is expected to have at least one or more teams.
