How the 2026 Leagues Cup Standings Work

Instead of small groups, the 2026 Leagues Cup keeps one table for the MLS clubs and one for the Liga MX clubs. Every Phase One match pits an MLS side against a Liga MX side, so both tables fill out at the same time across August 4 to 12. Teams earn three points for a win and one for a draw, and the four best records in each league move on. When clubs are level on points, the order is decided by goal difference, then goals scored, then the tournament tiebreakers. After Phase One, the eight qualifiers are seeded into the knockout bracket that ends with the Final on September 6.

2026 Leagues Cup Standings: Frequently Asked Questions

How do the 2026 Leagues Cup standings work?

Standings are kept separately for the MLS clubs and the Liga MX clubs during Phase One. Each of the 36 teams plays three cross-border matches, and the top four clubs in each league table advance to the knockout rounds. Points follow the usual three for a win and one for a draw.

Who qualifies from the Leagues Cup group stage?

The top four clubs in the MLS table and the top four in the Liga MX table, eight teams in total, advance to the quarterfinals. Ties in the table are broken by goal difference, then goals scored, and other league tiebreakers.

Are there groups in the 2026 Leagues Cup?

The 2026 tournament uses two league tables rather than small groups: one for all 18 MLS clubs and one for all 18 Liga MX clubs. Every Phase One match is an MLS club against a Liga MX club, so the two tables update in parallel.

When do the Leagues Cup standings update?

Phase One runs August 4 to 12, 2026, and the tables on this page refresh automatically as results come in. The knockout bracket is set once Phase One finishes, with the quarterfinals on August 25 to 27.

Where can I see the Leagues Cup bracket?

Once the top four from each league are set, the eight qualifiers move into the knockout bracket. Our printable bracket page has the full knockout draw and a downloadable PDF.
