The 2024 US Open Golf schedule runs from June 13th through Sunday June 16th, 2024. The tournament takes place at Pinehurst Country Club located in Pinehurst, North Carolina. 2024 US Open Golf Schedule
The 2024 US Open golf schedule kicks off on Thursday, June 13th for tournament play. The tournament is the third of four Major golf championships on the PGA Tour. The field is larger than we saw last month at the Masters. The tournament max capacity is 156 players. TV coverage for the event is delivered by USA Network for the early part of the first two rounds, and NBC covers the money times and lower scoring groups of players.

US Open Golf Background and Tickets
The U.S. Open is one of the most established golf tournaments in the game. The very first tournament was a one-day tournament held on a nine-hole course in Newport, Rhode Island. That took place on October 4th, 1895. Since then, it has become one of the four major Golf Tournaments. If you win, you get an automatic invite to the other Golf Majors. The youngest player to win the tourney was Jordan Spieth in 2015.
He was 21 and had just won the Masters Tournament. Jordan is also the youngest to win the Masters and US Open in the same year. Tiger Woods has won the tourney three times in his career. Unlike the Masters, if you want to buy tickets on the secondary market, they will not cost you as much. At the time of this writing, you can get lower-end tix for around $200 USD for the Thursday round of play. If Tiger plays, we can expect those prices to go up more.

So, playing Pinehurst Course No. 2 is on my bucket list the next time I’m in North Carolina (if I can get on). I’m not sure that I would play the US Open tees (if they are open) though! The course is challenging, but you can check out the scorecard here to see what you think you would shoot 🙂
US Open Golf Facts
- Amateurs with a handicap of 1.4 or lower can enter the U.S. Open. They have to make it to one of the 11 final qualifying events to earn a spot.
- The first American U.S. Open winner did not occur until John McDermott won the 1912 US Open. The first 17 or so events were focused on British golf pros who were coming to the United States.
- The first U.S. Open to be broadcast on TV was in 1954 on NBC. They showed an hour of the final round of play.
- The tournament did not move to a four-day, 72 hole format until 1965. In 1898, it had shifted from 36 to 72 holes, but was played over two to three days.
- Tiger Woods is the only male golfer who has won the US Junior Amateur, the US Amateur and the US Open. He won each event three times.The US Junior in 1991, 1992 and 1993. The US Amateur in 1994, 1995 and 1996. He won the US Open in 2000, 2002 and 2008.
- Tiger Woods also has the record for the largest US Open winning margin of 15 strokes. He set this in 2000 at Pebble Beach finishing at 12 under par.
Will Tiger Woods Play in the 2024 US Open Golf?
Now that Tiger Woods has gotten a full major under his belt with the 2024 Masters, a common question that comes up is will Tiger Woods play in the 2024 US Open Golf? As of right now, he is planning on playing in the US Open and the 2024 PGA Championship. Charlie Woods is also attempting to qualify for the US Open. If they both play, I think the golf world will just go bonkers. Tiger will require a special exemption to play (he is exempt for the Masters and PGA Championship). That is not a huge barrier, as the PGA has precedent set to do so.
