2024 College World Series Schedule and Bracket

2024 College World Series Schedule

The 2024 College World Series schedule runs from June 14 through June 23rd or 24th depending on the results of the finals. The tournament selections for the NCAA DI baseball tournament take place on Monday, May 27th, 2024. The eight teams who win their Super Regionals earn spots to go to Omaha, Nebraska to compete for the World Series championship. We have the schedule, bracket, and CWS TV schedule for you below.

Is There a Difference Between the DI Tournament and the College World Series (CWS)?

I have found that fans who are new to college baseball can get confused a tad with the postseason format. Specifically if there are two different tournaments. The College World Series is the basketball equivalent of the Elite 8 is the best way that I’ve found to answer their questions. The DI tournament kicks off in May with 64 teams playing in regions.

There are multiple games across two rounds of play. Then, the winners move on to the CWS to play in two brackets. The two bracket winners face off in a best-of-three series for the NCAA baseball championship. So, a little different than MLB’s playoffs and World Series formats, but it works for the college game.

When Did the NCAA Start the College World Series?

The first NCAA DI postseason baseball tournament took place in 1947. It only had eight teams. They played in two, four team single elimination brackets. Yale and Cal won these brackets and met in a best-of-three final in Kalamazoo. Cal would win the first College World Series and the NCAA title.

How Does the NCAA Pick Teams for the DI Baseball Tournament?

The NCAA has two qualifying groups for the baseball tournament (similar to March Madness). There are 32 conference champions who earn automatic berths. 33 teams get at-large bids. The NCAA DI baseball committee picks the at-large teams. We normally see more than a few out of the SEC Baseball Tournament each season. The College World Series concludes well before the Little League World Series gets started for fans who enjoy watching both events.
