The champion of the tournament earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship.

Only the top eight teams from the MAC earn a spot in the postseason tournament. The league shifted to this rationale for the 2021 MAC Men’s basketball tournament. The teams are seeded by their conference record, and the league uses the standard tie-breaker methodology to break ties.
