Expert Note from the SportsBrackets Analyst: Moving the tournament to Gas South Arena creates a fascinating new dynamic. This is a more intimate venue that often favors teams with high-energy backcourts. The 15-team cap is the real story, however; three teams will be left home entirely, making every February game a ‘must-win’ for the bottom of the conference. If you’re filling out a bracket, watch the #5 through #7 seeds carefully on Thursday—these are often Top-25 caliber teams that can easily upset a rested top seed on Friday.

Quick Take

Analysis: Notre Dame looked every bit the contender in their opening win over Miami. Their defensive rotations stifled the Hurricanes early, and with the win, they set up a massive Quarterfinal showdown on Friday morning. Keep an eye on the Virginia vs. NC State matchup; Virginia’s veteran guards could give the #1 seeded Wolfpack trouble if they start slow.
