The 2026 men’s tournament features 12 teams in three groups of four. NHL players are back (first since 2014), bringing star power like Auston Matthews (USA), Sidney Crosby (Canada), Leon Draisaitl (Germany), and more.

Team USA opened strong in Group C with a 5-1 win over Latvia on February 12 (Milano Santagiulia Arena), led by Brock Nelson’s two goals, plus tallies from Brady Tkachuk, Tage Thompson (PP), and Auston Matthews (PP). USA outshot Latvia 48-18 in a mature, dominant performance. Next up: Denmark (Feb 14) and Germany (Feb 15).

The 2026 women’s tournament features 10 teams split into two groups of five. All five teams from Group A and the top three from Group B advanced to the quarterfinals.

Team USA dominated Group A with a perfect 4-0 record, outscoring opponents 20-1 (+19 goal differential) – including a historic 5-0 shutout of rival Canada on February 10 (Canada’s first-ever Olympic shutout in women’s hockey). The U.S. is the clear #1 seed and faces host Italy in the quarterfinals tonight.

2026 NHL Playoff Schedule

Once the 2026 Milan Olympics are over, we get to go back to the NHL for about 6-8 weeks of regular season play. Then, we can look forward to the 2026 Stanley Cup and NHL Playoffs kicking off in mid-late April as we’ve all become accustomed to. 2026 definitely looks to be a fun year for hockey.
