Key Highlights & Storylines
- Miami’s Cinderella Run Continues: The No. 10 seed Hurricanes, who squeaked into the playoff and won a low-scoring first-round game at Texas A&M (10-3), have now taken down the defending champs. Their defense forced crucial turnovers, and Carson Beck showed poise in big moments.
- Ohio State’s Shocking Exit: The Buckeyes struggled with field position and offensive rhythm early, despite strong performances from Jeremiah Smith and running back Bo Jackson.
- New Year’s Day Preview: Expect high-scoring affairs in the Orange Bowl (Oregon’s explosive offense vs. Texas Tech’s stout defense) and Sugar Bowl (SEC rematch after Georgia’s earlier win over Ole Miss). The Rose Bowl pits undefeated Indiana against a resurgent Alabama squad under Kalen DeBoer.
Semifinal Projections
With Miami already in, the semifinals promise intrigue:
- Fiesta Bowl Favorite: If Georgia advances past Ole Miss, the Bulldogs’ physicality could challenge Miami’s momentum. Ole Miss would bring explosive offense if they pull the upset.
- Peach Bowl Favorite: Indiana’s perfect season makes them a storyline darling, but Alabama’s playoff pedigree is unmatched. Oregon-Texas Tech could produce a wide-open, high-scoring clash.
